This is an evolving collection that I'm currently working on
I'm making it with speckled and plain whitestone clay and free hand painted underglaze
It's become an exploration of color and flowing shapes that encompass the entire piece
I'm guided by what feels fun for my hands to make, and which colors sooth my mind
Some pieces reflect my current obsession with figs and birds, and consistent love of blueberries
This collection was made using sgraffito, a technique where I scratch away the surface glaze (blue) to reveal the clay underneath
The process is tedious and time consuming, but gave me a nice "escape" during my last term of college
It was my reintroduction into ceramics after 6 years, which brought me a lot of joy
This collection was fired in salt and wood kilns
It was an exploration of soft color, texture, and never really knowing how the pieces would turn out
These pieces give me fond memories of a time when I was learning (and failing) SO MUCH
I remember it all feeling very exciting and novel
My introduction to pottery during a highschool class!
An obscene amount of time was spent on each piece, and I really dove into my detail-oriented side
Some are wheel thrown, others are hand built
The female bodice vase took me dozens of hours, but I remember being so captivated by the process
